A liner is a component intended to serve as a thermal barrier between the combustion gases and the case. This can either be a pre-fabricated component, such as a phenolic or cardboard tube, or made on assembly, such as a spun cast EPDM or HTPB liner.

Liner Splicing

When commercially available liners are too short (and we still haven't figured out spin casting) two liners can be spliced together. This can either go well OW-152-8G #1, or catastrophically OW-152-8G #2.

The current process for slicing is to:

Create a band of liner around the inner diameter of the interface,
