Overview
Solids Loading is a metric for mechanical and casting properties of a propellant. Solids Loading is defined as the percent of the components in a propellant formula which are added as liquids. Propellants with high solids loading are prone to mechanical weakness, and may be difficult to degass and mold, owing to their high viscosity.
Examples
Propellant | Solids Loading | Result |
---|---|---|
CSXT's D8cm5 | 78% | Castable propellant with good mechanical properties |
Xaphan Blue | 78% | Castable propellant, long degassing time. Mechanical properties unevaluated |
Ocean Water | 81% | Castable propellant. Degas time on order of 1 hour |
