Dear Colleague:
How often in your undergraduate classes do you come across a student from an underrepresented population in philosophy who is promising and has genuine talent but is reluctant to make the step into future study in the field?
The loss to the profession is especially unfortunate given the urgent need not only to include people from diverse backgrounds but also to draw on all the resources they have to offer.
The Rutger's Summer Institute has inspired us at FEAST (Feminist Ethics and Social Theory) to replicate that endeavor, looking especially, but not exclusively, to address the fact of a paucity of women from underrepresented groups. To that end we emphasize feminist perspectives and inclusive perspectives that already have been brought to the field and to which today's students can contribute. The APA Board of Officers and the Rock Ethics Institute at Pennsylvania State University have extended their generous support and financial backing.
Please join in this effort. Check out the website
            http://rockethics.psu.edu/piksi.
Then:
--Email the information and attachment to colleagues.
--Print out the attached flier and post it prominently.
--Encourage students who are likely candidates to apply now.
--Offer to serve as a faculty sponsor to your student, that is
offer to mentor the student, assisting in the application process, and follow through after the summer program to further and consolidate the student's gains.

Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
The Board of Philosophy in an Inclusive Key (PIKSI)
