Notes (2/19/23):

Spring 2022

03/22/2023 - Updates from Concept Design Review

  • We need to replace the uneven rods with spacers to maintain uniform distancing
  • Replace all polycarbonate with G10 fiberglass
  • Now that the piston has been chosen, the top bulkhead will be made out of metal
  • All avionics decisions, sizing, and placement will no longer be made by the listed R.E.'s

03/05/2023 - Basic Design and Concept Design

  • Finalized the switchband system and list of materials
  • Presentation for Concept Design Review here

02/19/2023 - Preliminary Research

  • To do:Look into commercial vibrational testers - Claire
  • Screw terminal loose – was this the cause of avionics turning on? → Talk to avionics

  • Talk to Avionics about required components for upper and lower avionics towers - Emily

  • Calculate space above AV tower needed to store parachute - Julianne

    • Look at and dimension Phoenix booster mission package tube

    • 4 components: parachute area for 1st stage, AV bay, parachute area for 2nd, motor

  • Start CADing slider AV tower

  • Researc Research extra forces on AV tower from parachutes, potential buckling

Timeline:

1st meeting points:

  • Decide...

    • how

...

    • many avionics towers, what does the deployment look like

...

    •

    • approximate

...

    • dimensioning, looking into what the mass would be for these systems assuming Phoenix Avionics systems weights and lengths

...

Sustainer:

Booster

  • Weight:

  • Length:

    • Need an estimate of board size

...

  • Issue of the bay turning on in transit:

    • Did the vibration of the system cause the screw to move? If so, we may need better screw switches. This one was highly reviewed by rocketry forum: https://www.csrocketry.com/electronics/missleworks.html

    • *I need someone to come up with the test and give me commercial vibrational testers

  • Incorporating a window for easy access

...

  • packing volume of the lines and prevent potential line entanglement issues.

...

  • Sketch of the dual separation, dual deployment mechanism

Image Modified

  • Approximate diagram of the system with avionics system (not a schematic)
  • Switchband system
  • Inside view of the electronics bay showing the altimeters and switches.
  • *CO2 canister would be in place of a charge well. CO

Other Research

  • Pomona Liquid Rocket Lab (pg 117+)
    • Reinforced, system has a lot of rasberry pis since its for LP, ours will likely be smaller
    • Similar to above switchband
  • Nosecone bay kits, do we want or need one for GPS, for the pitot tube?
