This page is meant to document IAP project ideas for the team to pursue.

High Priority (directly supports Hermes II)

Finish Hermes II (if not done)

Upgrade Simulation Suite (Shannon? ideas?)

Tests for Hermes II

  • Vac and Vibe (MP subsystems AND full-up MP system minus cup and chutes... maybe just vac for the full one)
  • Radio (range and operational)
  • Thermal (External AND internal) (!!!)
  • Static load – MP Tube crush & pull, AV tower pull, NC crush, Motor hydro testing....
  • Shock/Drop – Mission package on a stiff string, fully built, drop from a couple feet to simulate shock.
  • Landing
  • Fin can dynamic/stiffness testing (Matthew C has some ideas here)
  • HITL/HOOTL

FAA Class III waiver if not done (!!!)

Launch Ops logistics (give this to GS/LO group)

Set up in-lab HITL with queue (Zack H. Josef B.)

Medium Priority (Near-term tech dev., also can support Hermes II)

Staging Development

  • Minimum diameter 3" --> 3" staging
    • Develop safety protocol and practices for MD rockets
  • 6" --> 4" Low altitude staging
    • Develop staging mechanism for SS-like geometry

"Test Fleet" – simple AF rockets that work that have space to test stuff that are kept BY THE TEAM

  • 2x – 3" rockets with 54mm Motor mount
    • COMMON MOUNTING SYSTEM FOR ELECTRONICS AND ADDITIONAL SECTIONS (i.e. common 3 or 4 bolt pattern or something)
    • Super strong through-the-wall fins, Jolly Logic Chute release DD
    • 1x Machbuster (overwrap tubes)?, 1x not a machbuster
    • Adapter for 38mm, 29mm Motor mount
    • Goal: make it easy to flight test electronic components and instrumentation cheaply
    • Goal: make it easy to give people experience with dual-deployment rockets at Berwick
  • 1x – 4" rocket with 75mm Motor Mount
    • COMMON MOUNTING SYSTEM FOR ELECTRONICS AND ADDITIONAL SECTIONS (i.e. common 3 or 4 bolt pattern or something)
    • Super strong through-the-wall fins, DSDD
    • Adapters for 54mm motor mount, 38 mm motor mount
    • Goal: make it easy to flight test electronic components and instrumentation
    • Goal: make it easy to give people experience with dual-deployment rockets at Berwick
    • Goal: Develop and test S2 electronics and recovery systems
  • 1x – 6" rocket with 4" motor mount
    • Adapters for 75, 54mm motors
    • COMMON MOUNTING SYSTEM FOR ELECTRONICS AND ADDITIONAL SECTIONS
    • Super strong through-the-wall fins, Piston SSDD
    • Goal: make it easy to flight test electronic components and instrumentation
    • Goal: make it easy to give people experience with PISTON-BASED dual-deployment rockets at Berwick
    • Goal: Develop and test S1 electronics and recovery systems

Baby Q motor

Custom NC for Hermes II

Low Priority (Far term tech. dev.)

Write Requirements for Space Shot (if we finish Hermes II)

Stage 2 Design (if we finish Hermes II)

  • Lots of people will be interested in this so we may need to have a teamleads meeting to get the architecture set and then do more detail design of systems
