In theory editing your bio is simple.

  1. Click on your name in the list to the left
  2. Log on (upper right)
  3. Click the pencil icon (upper right)
  4. Generally, you should be able to make edits to the content using the existing structure of the page. Playing around with the boxes the content is living-in is generally not advised.
  5. A few more tools you should be aware of show up in the toolbars, e.g. there’s an "Insert" button that lets you add things like pictures.
  6. Some information in your bio might be hidden if it’s living inside an "HTML Comment" box. This is one case where it's OK to move your content outside the box, if you want it visible.

  7. The standard bio layout contains:
    1. your name as you want to be professionally known
    2. academic background
    3. work experience
    4. research domain
    5. research methodology
    6. research description
    7. a link to your publications in google scholar (which you should set-up and periodically maintain – IMHO good practice for any researcher)
    8. a black-and-white thumbnail portrait
    9. personal website
    10. and professional website...

...in that order. Students early in their career may only have content for some of these sections. That's cool. Add more when you have it!
  8. Be sure to save your changes.
  9. Don’t be nervous about saving! Because this is a wiki, it’s easy to go back and reinstate an earlier version of your bio if things get a little messed-up. Just use “Page History” under “Tools” in the upper right. However, do bear in mind that this is a live site. Don’t write anything you wouldn't want your mother to read, even if the wiki is being persnickety.
  10. There are a couple of formatting details that we're happy to finesse on your behalf. If you want a hand, please send the Academic Office:

    • A portrait-style picture of yourself to post on your bio page
    • A link to your google scholar page (please create one if you don’t already have one – and make sure it’s public)
    • A link to your personal website (if any, and if you want it linked to your ESD bio)
    • A link to you professional website (if any, and if you want it linked to your ESD bio)
  11. In fact, if the wiki isn't behaving for you, call the Academic Office 617-253-1182.
  12. Drop the Academic Office a line when you’re done making changes, and we’ll make an editorial pass through your bio.

Thanks, and good luck!
