On Wednesday, October 17, 2012, the Materials Processing Center will host the Materials Day 2012 Symposium & Research Review Poster Session.  The theme and focus of this year?s symposium is: Materials for Energy Harvesting

Presentations by invited speakers will address the materials, performance considerations and challenges related to piezoelectric, solar, thermoelectric

and photonic systems. A range of applications will be addressed including portable devices, sensing, transportation and others.

The symposium will be held at MIT in the Kresge Little Theatre (Bldg. W16, opposite 77 Massachusetts Avenue).  Registration for attendees will begin at 8:00 am.

Please reserve this date on your calendar and feel free to extend the invitation to your colleagues. Admission is free and registration is open to the MIT community and colleagues.  An on-line registration form and complete agenda are available at http://mpc-web.mit.edu/.

Materials Day activities will include a one-day conference featuring speakers from both inside and outside MIT. Our invited speakers from industry include:

  • Dr. Lon Bell, Founder and Former CTO & CEO, Amerigon
  • Dr. Dave Eaglesham, CEO, Pellion Technologies & Former CTO First Solar
  • Dr. Sergio Kapusta, Chief Scientist Manager Physics & Materials, Shell Int. E&P

and from MIT:

  • Prof. Gang Chen, Mechanical Engineering
  • Prof. Rahul Sarpeshkar, Electrical Engineering
  • Prof. Sang-Gook Kim, Mechanical Engineering
  • Prof. Gene Fitzgerald, Materials Science & Engineering

Our audience for the day will include our students and faculty, alumni/alumnae, as well as research and program sponsors and friends from industry and government.

This Materials Day symposium and poster session will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss research with industrial and government guests in addition to other MIT faculty, students, and staff. The poster session and social, which will be held from 3:30-6:00 PM, will highlight undergraduate, graduate student and post-doctoral work over the full range of materials research at MIT.

We need your help in making the Materials Day Poster Session a continuing success.

Please support the Materials Day Poster Session.

We are asking for your support and encouragement of the students in your group to submit a poster for the Poster session.
