This acronym and abbreviation dictionary is an attempt wiki aims to help community members decipher the "alphabet soup" of terms used at the Institute. This list builds on one created in the Libraries in 1989. Old and even defunct acronyms and abbreviations are included here because people still use them. Most of the items are MIT terms, but the dictionary also lists some external organizations that are referred to at MIT.

To add acronyms or abbreviationsTo keep this list helpful and current, we need your help! If you're on the editors@mit or infogroup@mit mailing list, you're authorized to make changes or additions to any page of this wiki. This includes making new entries and adding links to current entries. Just click on "edit" above, go to the spot on the page you want to change, type a new entry and hit Save. Or highlight en entry and use the Link button (the icon looks like a mountain against a yellow sky). NOTE: To prevent errors or abuse, the wiki keeps a record of each change along with the time it was made and who made it. If you have any questions or problems, please contact Alice Waugh (awaugh "at" mit "dot" edu or 253-3850).
