In theory editing your bio is simple.

  1. Log on (upper right)
  2. Click the pencil icon (upper right)
  3. Generally, you should be able to get away with working in the “Rich Text” tab, which works pretty much like an old version of Word. Also, generally, you should be able to leave the wiki-markup code alone, which should preserve the formatting, and just concentrate on making the factual changes you need to make.
  4. A few more functions you should be aware of show up in the toolbars, i.e. there’s a button for adding pictures.
  5. Some information in your bio might be hidden if it’s sandwiched between two{{

    }}tags. If you want that information visible, remove both the tags. If you want to hide different information (as opposed to just deleting it), add a pair of{{

    }}tags around the content.
  6. The standard bio layout contains: your name as you want to be professionally known, academic background, work experience, research domain, research methodology, research description, a link to your publications in google scholar (which you should set-up and periodically maintain – good practice for any researcher), a black-and-white thumbnail portrait, personal website and professional website... in that order. Students early in their career may only have content for some of these sections. That's cool. Add more when you have it!
  7. Check out the menu options beneath the window where you edit your bio. One of the options is "Label." You can now label your bio which enables... drum-roll... indexing. Please choose from the pre-seeded labels.
  8. Be sure to save your changes.
  9. Don’t be nervous about saving! Because this is a wiki, it’s easy to go back and reinstate an earlier version of your bio if things get a little messed-up. Just use “Page History” under “Tools” in the upper right. However, do bear in mind that this is a live site. Don’t say anything you wouldn’t want your mother to hear, even if the wiki is being persnickety.
  10. Call the Academic Office if the wiki isn’t behaving for you.
  11. Drop the Academic Office a line when you’re done, and we’ll make an editorial pass through your bio.

Thanks, and good luck!
